Founder,

Mentor, Leader and Friend , Bruce C. Reuber

On a local level, Bruce served on the Hector City Council for 12 years and was instrumental in establishing the Hector Community Center and served on the Hector Community Pool committee for many years.  Bruce was also the Hector City Assessor.  He was a member of Kiwanis and the Hector Chamber of Commerce.  Bruce and Beate also owned the Hector Variety Store.

Bruce enjoyed working and spending time outdoors doing gardening and yard work.  He was very fond of his birds and made sure that the feeders were filled at all times.  He was a sports fanatic and especially enjoyed basketball and football.  His favorite place was his home on the Lake.  Bruce loved the water and performing his stunts on the personal watercraft.  He was fascinated by airplanes and in 2003 his dream of flying on the Concord came true.

His family was most important to him and he especially loved his grandchildren and spending time with them.  He was very proud of all their accomplishments and always encouraged them.  Bruce was a true Gentleman.  We will miss his optimism, energetic nature, his kindness towards others, and most of all, his radiant smile.

Bruce passed away peacefully in the early morning of Wednesday, January 30, 2008.  He attained the age of 67 years, 11 months, and 30 days.  Bruce is survived by his wife, Beate of Hector.  By three daughters, Belinda Stark and husband, Harlen of Hutchinson, Beatrice Stamer and husband, Dale of Hutchinson, and Brigitte Reuber-Christopher and husband, Michael of East Amherst, New York.  By grandchildren, Justine and Johanna Stark, Brittany, Brianne and Brady Stamer, and Hallie, Madison, and Giana Christopher.  He is also survived by brother Sheryl Reuber of Hector, brother-in-law Thomas Arthen of Hochberg, Germany, sister-in-law Cornelia Salzborn and husband, Harald of Hochberg, Germany and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bruce Carlyle Reuber was born on February 3, 1940 in Hutchinson, Minnesota.  He was the son of Clifford Carlyle and Elna Marie (Nelson) Reuber.

He was baptized on March 22, 1940 by Reverend Palm at First Lutheran Church in Hector and on June 6, 1954 he confirmed this faith through the Rite of Confirmation also at First Lutheran Church in Hector with Reverend Olson officiating.

Bruce graduated from the Hector High School in 1958 and attended the University of Minnesota and Saint Cloud State University.  He lived in Hector all his life except for his tour in Germany while in the United States Army where he met his wife Beate M. Arthen.  They were united in marriage on January 25, 1964 in Wurzburg, Germany.

Bruce’s entire career was spent in the Telecommunications industry.  He started with Ericson Engineering in Hector, was involved in communications in the Military and took employment in July of 1964 with Minnesota Central, the former Hector Telephone Company, after returning from Germany.  When the company was sold, he began employment with the newly formed Communications Systems, Inc. (CSI) in 1970.

In 1981 he started Interstate Telcom Consulting, Inc. and eventually occupied the same office as he had started in 1964 after purchasing the original Hector Telephone Company building.

Over the years Bruce has served on various industry committees and was currently serving on OPASTCO, MNTA, and WSTA committees.  Bruce was a professional in all respects.  His personality, enthusiasm, hard work and dedication to the telecommunications industry will be missed.  He cherished the friendships he made over the years.
